SINOMA CEMENT Co., Ltd. – Les Ciments de Jbel Oust – 1
Project description

Integrated technical expertise for optimising an aggregate quarry at Jbel Oust – Zaghouan Governorate

Theme: Optimising extraction and enhancing the value of mineral resources

As part of its commitment to sustainable and optimised mineral resource management, « BUT Géologie » carried out a comprehensive technical assessment at an industrial aggregate quarry located at Jbel Oust, within Bir M’Chergua delegation (Zaghouan governorate).

The main objective of this assignment is to characterise the deposit being worked in depth through an integrated approach combining high-precision geological mapping and detailed structural analysis. It aims to establish a reliable geological model, providing an essential basis for the rigorous assessment of geological and recoverable reserves, while incorporating the site's specific technical, geometrical and operational constraints.

Proposed methodology

The adopted methodology is structured around three complementary phases:

Phase 1: Updating the topographic reference framework

  • Preparation and updating of a topographic plan at a scale of 1/2 000 (updated as at 10 January 2026);
  • Establishment of a reliable reference base for monitoring extraction operations and calculating reserves.

Phase 2: Geological analysis and deposit modelling

  • Detailed geological mapping at regional and local scales, highlighting the spatial distribution of outcropping formations;
  • Production of geological cross-sections illustrating the geometry and structural relationships of the various units;
  • Preparation of lithostratigraphic logs describing lithological successions and facies variations;
  • Development of a three-dimensional geological model (block diagram) providing an overall visualisation and a coherent interpretation of the deposit.

Phase 3: Optimisation of extraction and reserve assessment

  • Definition of an extraction method tailored to the site's geological characteristics and operational constraints;
  • Establishment of a selective extraction scheme aimed at optimising the utilisation of materials;
  • Quantitative estimation of geological and recoverable reserves, based on the geological model, with a precise classification of materials.

Project description

Advanced technical expertise for the optimisation of a marl quarry at Jbel Oust – Governorate of Zaghouan

Theme: Optimising extraction and enhancing the value of mineral resources

As part of its support for industrial operators in the sustainable management and utilisation of mineral resources, « BUT Géologie » carried out a comprehensive technical assessment of a marl quarry located at the locality of Jbel Oust, within the delegation of Bir M’Chergua (Governorate of Zaghouan).

This assignment aims to improve understanding of the deposit through an integrated approach combining detailed geological mapping and in-depth structural analysis. The objective is to develop a reliable geological model enabling a rigorous assessment of geological and recoverable reserves, while taking into account the technical, geometrical and regulatory constraints associated with extraction.

Proposed methodology

The methodology adopted comprises three main phases:

Phase 1: Updating the topographic reference framework

  • Preparation of an accurate topographic plan at a scale of 1/2 000, updated as of 16 January 2026;
  • Provision of a reliable reference base for extraction operations and reserve calculations.

Phase 2: Detailed geological study of the deposit

  • Detailed regional and local geological mapping, highlighting outcropping formations and their spatial distribution;
  • Production of geological cross-sections illustrating the geometry and structural relationships of the various units;
  • Preparation of lithostratigraphic logs describing lithological successions and facies variations;
  • Development of a three-dimensional geological model (block diagram) providing an overall visualisation and improved interpretation of the deposit.

Phase 3: Optimisation of extraction and reserve assessment

  • Definition of a suitable extraction method, based on geological characteristics and operational constraints;
  • Establishment of a selective extraction scheme aimed at optimal utilisation of materials;
  • Calculation of geological and recoverable reserves, including a quantitative estimate of volumes and a classification of materials.
