GEOPHYSICAL PROSPECTING SOLUTIONS
BUT Géologie provides its clients with a wide range of geophysical prospecting solutions tailored to different contexts.

Electrical methods
Electrical methods are based on studying the distribution of electrical potential in the ground. Measuring ground electrical resistivity provides both qualitative and quantitative information. Geological interpretation of these results makes it possible to distinguish between sound rock masses, weathered zones, water-saturated zones and natural geological discontinuities.
Seismic methods
Seismic methods, widely used in civil engineering, enable the thickness of readily excitable ground to be assessed and the top of compact bedrock to be located precisely. They are also effective in identifying loosened or karstified zones within limestone masses or evaporites. In addition, BUT Géologie conducts studies of the impacts of blasting near built-up areas or other infrastructure, to define the most appropriate technical and safety measures.
Ground-penetrating radar (GPR)
Ground-penetrating radar is a non-destructive technique based on analysing the propagation (refraction, reflection and diffraction) of high-frequency electromagnetic waves. The use of frequency-domain ground-penetrating radar, a recent technique subject to specific instrumentation constraints, is the focus of extensive research and applications in various fields such as archaeology, hydrogeology, strategic studies and civil engineering.
