Project description

Société Tunisienne d’Exploitation des Carrière de Marbre « SOTECAM » commissioned our consultancy « BUT Géologie » to carry out the project to extend the extraction area of an industrial dimension stone quarry located at J. El Maktaa, Imadet Fondok Jedid, Délégation de Grombalia, Gouvernorat de Nabeul.

We worked with SOTECAM to:

  • Describe the current condition of the quarry, its proposed extension and its surroundings, as well as the natural features and resources likely to be affected by the project.
  • Describe the project in detail, present the extraction method and operations, and propose extraction and rehabilitation plans that comply with environmental standards, along with Digital Terrain Models « M.N.T» illustrating and describing the various stages of extraction.
  • Analyse the foreseeable direct and indirect effects of the project on the environment.
  • List the measures envisaged to eliminate, reduce and offset harmful environmental effects, and estimate the corresponding costs.
  • Draw up an Environmental Management Plan « P.G.E».

As a reminder, this study provides the developer with an essential basis for decision-making when designing the project by taking into account its direct and indirect effects on the ecosystem. It proposes measures that the developer undertakes to implement to eliminate, mitigate or offset negative impacts and enhance the positive effects of a project during the construction or implementation phase, the operational phase and the decommissioning or rehabilitation phase.
