Project description

Geological Assessment and Phosphate Reserve Evaluation: The « Henchir Stah » Licence

The consultancy BUT Géologie carried out an in-depth assessment on behalf of TASMID INDUSTRY, covering geological and geochemical characterisation and the evaluation of phosphate reserves within the Group 5 exploration licence « Henchir Stah », located in Aïn Fdhil, Ksour Delegation (Le Kef Governorate, Tunisia).

The main objective of this assignment is to define the deposit’s potential precisely, estimate recoverable reserves according to rock quality, and propose an optimised and sustainable extraction methodology.

Analysis and Modelling Methodology

The study focused on an area of interest of 203 hectares within a licence covering a total of 1200 hectares. It is based on an integrated approach combining fieldwork, geochemical analyses and advanced 3D modelling.

An exploration campaign carried out in 2024 involved drilling ten cored boreholes to depths ranging from 20 to 68 metres.

Samples collected from different stratigraphic levels provided the basis for precise chemical characterisation of the deposit.

2. Geological Characterisation

The work identified and investigated the main geological formations covering the area:

  • El Garia Formation,
  • Chouabine Formation,
  • Haria Formation.

The phosphate-bearing sequence, targeted for potential extraction, belongs to the Chouabine Formation.

Detailed lithostratigraphic sections and multidirectional correlations enabled the characterisation of lateral and vertical variations in the geological units.

3. 3D Geological & Geochemical Modelling

Two three-dimensional models were developed using GEOVIA Surpac software:

  • A 3D lithological model illustrating the internal geometry of the deposit,
  • A 3D geochemical model representing the spatial distribution of grades.

The geochemical analysis focused on:

  • The P₂O₅ content, the main indicator of ore richness,
  • Deleterious impurities: MgO, Fe₂O₃, Al₂O₃.

This approach enabled the delineation of high-potential zones and helped guide future extraction strategies.
