Integrated Technical Expertise for the Optimization of a Gravel Quarry at Jbel Oust – Zaghouan Governorate
Theme: Optimization of Mining Operations and Mineral Resource Valorization
As part of its commitment to sustainable and optimized management of mineral resources, BUT Géologie conducted a comprehensive technical expertise at an industrial gravel quarry located at Jbel Oust, within the Bir M’Chergua delegation (Zaghouan Governorate).
The primary objective of this mission was to provide an in-depth characterization of the exploited deposit through an integrated approach combining high-precision geological mapping and detailed structural analysis. The work aimed to develop a reliable geological model, serving as a fundamental basis for the rigorous assessment of geological and recoverable reserves while incorporating the technical, geometrical, and operational constraints specific to the site.
Proposed Methodology
The adopted methodological approach is structured around three complementary phases:
Phase 1: Update of the Topographic Reference Framework
- Preparation and update of a topographic map at a 1:2,000 scale (updated January 10, 2026);
- Establishment of a reliable reference base for monitoring quarry operations and calculating reserves.
Phase 2: Geological Analysis and Deposit Modeling
- Production of detailed geological mapping at regional and local scales, highlighting the spatial distribution of outcropping formations;
- Creation of geological cross-sections illustrating the geometry and structural relationships of the different units;
- Development of lithostratigraphic logs describing lithological successions and facies variations;
- Design of a three-dimensional geological model (block diagram) enabling comprehensive visualization and coherent interpretation of the deposit.
Phase 3: Optimization of Mining Operations and Reserve Assessment
- Definition of a mining method adapted to the geological characteristics and operational constraints of the site;
- Implementation of a selective mining scheme aimed at optimizing material valorization;
- Quantitative estimation of geological and recoverable reserves, based on the geological model, with precise material classification.
