Advanced Technical Expertise for the Optimization of a Marl Quarry at Jbel Oust – Zaghouan Governorate
Theme: Optimization of Mining Operations and Mineral Resource Valorization
As part of supporting industrial operators in the sustainable management and valorization of mineral resources, “BUT Géologie” carried out a comprehensive technical expertise assignment for a marl quarry located at Jbel Oust, within the Bir M’Chergua delegation (Zaghouan Governorate).
This assignment aims to enhance the understanding of the deposit through an integrated approach combining detailed geological mapping and advanced structural analysis. The objective is to develop a reliable geological model that enables a rigorous assessment of both geological and recoverable reserves, while taking into account the technical, geometrical, and regulatory constraints associated with quarry operations.
Proposed Methodology
The adopted methodological approach is structured into three main phases:
Phase 1: Update of the Topographic Reference Framework
- Preparation of an accurate topographic map at a 1:2,000 scale, updated as of January 16, 2026;
- Provision of a reliable reference base for mining operations and reserve estimation.
Phase 2: Detailed Geological Study of the Deposit
- Conducting detailed regional and local geological mapping to identify outcropping formations and their spatial distribution;
- Creation of geological cross-sections illustrating the geometry and structural relationships of the different units;
- Development of lithostratigraphic logs describing lithological successions and facies variations;
- Design of a three-dimensional geological model (block diagram) to support comprehensive visualization and interpretation of the deposit.
Phase 3: Optimization of Mining Operations and Reserve Assessment
- Definition of an appropriate mining method based on geological characteristics and operational constraints;
- Implementation of a selective mining scheme to ensure optimal resource valorization;
- Estimation of geological and recoverable reserves, including quantitative volume assessment and material classification.
